Annual Savanna Science Network Meeting
First Call for Papers: 10th Annual Savanna Science Networking Meeting
04 - 09 March 2012
Managing savanna ecosystems for multiple outcomes
The Annual Savanna Science Networking Meeting will be hosted by SANParks’ Scientific Services from 4–9 March 2012 in Skukuza. We would like to encourage delegates to submit abstracts for full platform presentations and shorter speed talks (with posters) that address the following key themes:
- Ecosystem change: degradation or restoration, resistant or resilient?
- Ecosystem function and biodiversity: is it maintained by large herds of animals?
- How do biotic and abiotic drivers influence savanna ecosystem variability?
- Does heterogeneity matter, and if so, how where and at what scales?
- How do management actions influence biodiversity outcomes?
- Achieving freshwater conservation across large-scale and multi-use landscapes: research insights, policy mechanisms and novel approaches.
- What is the relationship between ecosystem services and human benefits including those to tourists and other constituencies?
The meeting will convene in the Mdluli Conference centre in Skukuza. The registration process will follow the approach employed for the 2010 meeting, namely registration for those delegates with accepted abstracts first, followed by an open registration process for other attendees and interested parties until capacity is reached.
- Second call for abstracts: early October 2011
- The deadline for abstract submission for talks and posters is Friday 4 November 2011. Please take note of the format requirements outlined below.
- We will notify delegates by 25 November 2011 whether their abstracts have been accepted.
- If your abstract is accepted you will have until 16 December 2011 to register and pay for the accommodation and meeting.
- After 16 December 2011 we will open the registration to all other delegates and registration will then be on a first come first serve basis.
- Once the number of delegates has reached our capacity limit we will not be able to accept additional registrations.
The registration fee for 2012 is R 2200, payable in advance. This includes all registration fees, lunches, dinners and teas. Jackey Deacon will again be organizing all logistics related to registration and accommodation.
